Abbey Road

Abbey Road, the 11th studio album released by The Beatles, was consider by the critics as the band's best work and one of the best albums of the History.

But Abbey Road is much more than that. Located in the borough of Camden and the City of Westminster, it is one of the most famous streets in London. The Abbey Road Studios, before known as EMI Studios, has become centre of pilgrimage for the fans of the Beatles.

Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden, Michael Jackson, U2, Oasis, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Radiohead or Queen chose these Studios to record their works. But this society is better known because of the Beatles. Besides to record most of their albums in these studios and name their penultimate studio LP Abbey Road, they also chose the zebra crossing located just outside the studio entrance to illustrate the album's cover.

The photo session, made by the photograph Ian McMillan on Friday 8th of August, 1969, at 10.00 a.m., lasted only ten minutes. They crossed the street four times and the artist took six shots. The good one was the fifth.

Nowadays, the studio is used for recording stringed orchestras, such as the Star Wars soundtrack and Halo 4. On February, 2010, the Abbey Road Studios went on sale. Because of a protest, the British Government protected it and declared it as an Historic Interest building, which means the edifice cannot be demolished, extended, or altered. Also, the council repaints the wall every three months to cover the graffiti.

Since then, the crossing has been moved several metres further down the road but thousands of fans are still visiting this emblematic landmark.
