This glove belongs to Michael Jackson's Statue. The sculpture is 2.3 metres high and it is made of resin and plaster.
Mohamed Al Fayed, who was a friend of the artist, commissioned the figure after Michael's death with the idea of placing it in Harrods. But in 2010, Al Fayed sold the iconic department store to Qatar Holdings for £1.5bn. The Qatari family refused to install the statue in their mall, so Michael Jackson sculpture was finally placed outside Craven Cottage, the Fulham Football Club stadium, on the 3rd of April, 2011.
The acceptation of the statue was very negative but the truth is that, as time went by, it was accepted as an important part of Craven Cottage.
In July, 2013, Shahid Khan bought the oldest established football team in London. Two months later, the new owner decided to remove the statue and returned it to Al-Fayed. On the 25th of September, the sculpture was definitely pulled down.
Since then, the Fulham FC did not achieve any success. After 13 seasons in the Premier, the team was relegated after a terrible year. Nowadays, Fulham is in the 21st position.
Has the team being cursed? This is what Mohamed AL Fayed thought. "This statue was a charm and we removed the luck from the club and now we have to pay the price. When [Khan] asked me to move it I said: 'You must be crazy.' This is such a fantastic statue which the fans are crying out for. But now he has paid the price because the club has been relegated. He called me because he told me he wanted Michael to return. I told him, no way."
In May, 2014, the statue was moved to the National Football Museum in Manchester.
